Urdu poet & broadcaster of Punjabi and Urdu languages Aslam Kolsari was born on 01-08-1946 in Jammar, Okara, Pakistan. He started his career as a laboratory supervisor and later moved to Lahore where he worked for a newspaper ‘Mashriq’.Aslam also served the Urdu Science Board as research officer and rose to the position of deputy director. He has authored various poetry collection including Kaash, Koi, Neend, Barsat, Veeran, Nakhal-i-Jaan, Jeewan, Kaif, Panchhi, Ek Nazar Kafi Hai etc.‘Khandar Mein Chirag’, ‘Zakhmi Gulab’, ‘Anokhey Shikari’ and ‘Chand Ke Uss Paar’ are some of his popular stories written for the children.
Some of his couplets and ghazals got very famous. One such ghazal is “Jab mein uske gaon se bahar nikla tha/ har rastay nay mera rasta roka tha”.
Another couplet of the same ghazal became synonymous with his name: “Shehar mein aa kar padhbe wale bhool gaye, kis ki maa ne kitna zewar becha tha”.
The late Dr Syed Shabihul Hasan had written a book on the poetry of Kolsari under the title, Jadeed Ghazal Aur Aslam Kolsari Ka Sheri Sarmaya.
